إن ما يميز الجنس الروائي عن الجنس الشعري هو ذلك التفكك والتعدد في اللغة، ذلك التنوع الواضح لمختلف أشكال الحديث والتعبير الاجتماعية المختلفة، باعتبار اللغة ظاهرة اجتماعية وكائن حي يتطور وينمو بتطور الحراك الاجتماعي المرتبط بالأحداث التاريخية والتحولات الكبيرة التي تؤثر في طبائع الأفراد، ومن ثمّ في لغاتهم وطرائق تفكيرهم وتباينهم الإيديولوجي، فكيف يتمكن الروائي من التأليف بين مختلف الاتجاهات والرؤى والمواقف داخل الرواية بحيث لا يترك طرفًا معينًا يهيمن أو يسيطر على طرف أو أطراف أخرى؟؛ هنا في هذه النقطة "يستفيد ميخائيل باختين من رأي الناقد أوتوكاوس الذي أشار إلى تعددية المواقف الإيديولوجية المتعادلة النفوذ في روايات دستويفسكي، حيث شُبِّه بربِّ المنزل الذي يستطيع أن ينسجم بصورة رائعة مع مجموعة من الضيوف متنوعة المشارب، وأن يسيطر على مجتمع متعدد الألوان، وأن يجعل الجميع بدرجة واحدة من التوتر
