Abstract English

The aim of this paper is to identify and analyze certain narrative strategies used in ‘Le naufrage des civilisations’ written by Amin MAALOUF and published in 2019. We tried to analyze these strategies and find out how they helped the writer to reach his objectives? In addition to that, we aimed to demonstrate the value of autobiographical expressions. We started by studying the narrative methods. Then we tried to reveal their impact on the construction of the essay. Therefore, the use of the analysis of autobiographical traits used, such as the events lived and then told, constitute avenues of research not to be neglected as they mark important elements in the writings of our author. We classified the autobiographical expressions commonly used into two categories: the first one, including past events experienced by the author, as an eyewitness, or as told by his parents and revolved in a geographical area that also experienced cultural, economic, and moral prosperity. The second one, containing incidents and events that explain the present and help understanding its innumerable values. Finally, we presented certain narrative tools used by the author to help the reader understand the author's call. In conclusion, we focus on the distinctive choice of the narrative methods and its pragmatic value that guided the discourse towards the required objectives.

الملخص العربي

L'objet de cette recherche est de repérer et d’analyser les procédés narratifs qui figurent dans ‘Le naufrage des civilisations’, d'Amin MAALOUF, publié en 2019. Notre problématique est d’identifier les stratégies auxquelles l’écrivain a eu recours pour arriver à sa visée ? Et de trouver la valeur des traits autobiographiques utilisés comme un des procédés narratifs essentiels de l’ouvrage. Nous avons étudié ces stratégies afin de cerner leurs différentes visées. Pour ce faire, le recours à l’analyse des traits autobiographiques habituellement usités, tels que les évènements vécus puis racontés constituent des pistes de recherche à ne pas négliger dans la mesure où ils marquent des éléments importants dans les écrits de notre auteur. Nous avons classifié ces événements en deux types d’événements. Le premier, englobe ceux qui glorifient le passé et témoignent du respect ses valeurs morales, dans une région géographique qui a également connu une prospérité culturelle, économique et morale. Le second, contient ceux qui expliquent le moment actuel et aident à l’appréhender, afin d’étudier les innombrables valeurs qui s’en dégagent comme des éléments qui ont un impact sur le futur et qui s’insèrent dans l’appareil argumentatif. Enfin, nous avons analysé d’autres procédés narratifs, comme l’utilisation de figures rhétoriques comme l’hypotypose et les analogies, l’intertextualité et le choix distinctif du vocabulaire. En guise de conclusion, nous avons souligné les stratégies narratives utilisées et leurs valeurs pragmatiques.
