Abstract English

Air travel in the Sultanate of Oman and its associated regions has been significantly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The effects began to appear since the beginning of the epidemic in 2020, as many countries imposed travel restrictions and movement restrictions to limit the spread of the virus. These measures caused a sharp decline in passenger traffic and a reduction in flights, which greatly affected the aviation sector in Oman and its surrounding areas. This study aims to highlight the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on air travel in the Sultanate of Oman and the associated global aviation markets by identifying air traffic from 2019-2022, and analyzing the impact of the pandemic on the number of passengers traveling and flights. In its methodology, this study relied on some statistical and geostatistical methods in the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) environment, in analyzing data represented by the simple and multiple linear regression method to determine the effect of the independent variables (numbers of passengers traveling - numbers of infections with the Covid-19 virus) on the dependent variable (numbers of flights). The study concluded that the Covid-19 pandemic had a significant impact on the decrease in the number of passengers traveling and flights as a result of the closure of airports, curfews, and imposing travel restrictions to limit the spread of the pandemic in the Sultanate of Oman.

تأثر السفر الجوي في سلطنة عمان والأقاليم المرتبطة بها بشكل كبير بسبب جائحة كوفيد-19، بدأت الآثار تظهر منذ بداية انتشار الوباء في عام 2020م؛ حيث فرضت العديد من الدول قيودًا على السفر، وتقييدات على الحركة؛ للحد من انتشار الفايروس، هذه الإجراءات تسببت في تراجع حاد في حركة الركاب وتقلص في الرحلات الجوية؛ ما أثر -بشكل كبير- على قطاع الطيران في عمان والمناطق المحيطة بها. تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى إبراز أثر جائحة كوفيد-19 على السفر الجوي في سلطنة عُمان وأسواق الطيران العالمية المرتبطة بها من خلال التعرف على حركة الطيران من عام 2019م- 2022م، وتحليل أثر الجائحة على عدد الركاب المسافرين والرحلات الجوية، اعتمدت هذه الدارسة في منهجيتها على بعض الأساليب الإحصائية والجيوإحصائية في بيئة نظم المعلومات الجغرافية (GIS)، في تحليل البيانات متمثلة بأسلوب الانحدار الخطي البسيط والمتعدد؛ لمعرفة تأثير المتغيرات المستقلة (أعداد الركاب المسافرين– أعداد الإصابات بفايروس كوفيد-19) على المتغير التابع (أعداد الرحلات الجوية). وقد خلصت الدراسة إلى أن لجائحة كوفيد-19 تأثيرًا كبيرًا على انخفاض أعداد الركاب المسافرين والرحلات الجوية نتيجة لإغلاق المطارات، وحظر التجول، وفرض قيود السفر للحد من انتشار الجائحة في سلطنة عُمان.
